Imran Tukijoe - Rising from the Ashes

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. This is the kind of spirit that Mr Imran Tukijoe has shown through major life tribulations. Fortunately, with help, he has been able to turn the tide not just once, but twice for himself and his family.

In 2007, Mr Imran’s family underwent a variety of upgrading courses under the Empowerment Partnership Scheme (EPS) from Zakat contributions, for families who require support. Mr Imran had had trouble finding work due to back pains after facing an accident in 1992. On top of that, he also suffered from diabetes, gout and arthritis.

“After undergoing different safety courses, I’m now able to work in the safety sector and earn a reasonable salary. This scheme changed the lives of my family and I,” said Mr Imran then.

Unfortunately, that ease did not last long. In 2016, Mr Imran suffered a heart attack. To make matters worse, in early 2017, while he was preparing to go to work, he had a bad fall in his home. Afterwards, he was unable to walk and had to be hospitalised for 8 months.

“When I was discharged from the hospital in August last year, my employers dismissed me from work,” said Mr Imran, father of five.

Her problems became more challenging, as she also had to face these issues alone. In 2002, Mdm Salbiah underwent a divorce from her husband. Currently, she lives in a rental flat with her five children.

He was left with mobility issues and no means to provide for his family. Thankfully, his thoughts then turned to a source of assistance that he had sought out before – Zakat from MUIS.

"Alhamdulillah, with all this help I’ve been given, I can focus my attention on my healing process."

“I am extremely grateful to people who have contributed, that have greatly helped families like my own. I pray to Allah to bless them with abundant sustenance,” said Mr Imran.

Despite his many trials, Mr Imran’s positive and resilient spirit has let him find other ways to ensure that his family is taken care of. Here’s one who has been able to rise from the ashes again and again.
