As believers, we regard Allah s.w.t. as All-Powerful (Al Qaadir), and the Determiner of all things (Al Muqtadir), among His other attributes. Clearly, no one can refute God’s plans.
Then what is the point of our actions or advice towards others?
The above line of thinking has led some individuals to believe that it’s useless to work hard because God has already determined their finances, or reminding others of doing good as their fates have already been set.
However, there is a clear distinction between God’s determinations and our responsibilities as human beings. Here are a couple of examples:
|God determines..||Our responsibility is..|
|Good and evil||To keep on striving|
|What come to pass||To remind others and give good advice|
“For each one are successive [angels] before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allah. Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.”
It is thus possible for people to change their fates through the effort that they put in, with the permission of Allah s.w.t.
“And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.”
God has commanded us to give good advice and reminders. These may not be heeded right now, but we have no knowledge of how Allah s.w.t. may shape people’s hearts later. It’s thus important that we don’t speak harshly, but rather out of love, so that our reminders may be remembered positively in the future.
As such, every single one of our actions and efforts matter. It’s important that we are clear on this, and not let God be the excuse for neglecting to carry out good deeds and our responsibilities.
